Urbanized, the final film in Gary Hustwit’s design trilogy, is being released for public viewing starting today at the IFC Center in New York. If you are still a subscriber, you can watch the previous two films, Helvetica (2007) and Objectified (2009) instantly on Netflix. The Foundry is proud to have worked on the film designing and producing the motion graphics including a diagram of past, current, and future city populations; a model for the Half a House project in Chile; and a detailed animation of a city from the Garden City Movement.
This was one of the first times the Foundry has worked on a film for major release and after creating the clips on 23-inch monitors for weeks, we were finally able to see our work incorporated with the rest of the film on the big screen at a private showing last month. The results were incredible and we are so proud to be a part of such a inspiring film.
Gary successfully deals with a broad range of topics that affect cities from population growth, to transportation, to safety and leaves the viewer with an understanding of the importance of creativity and design in urban planning for the future. It was a pleasure to work with Gary and the Urbanized team on the film and we’re looking forward to future projects for the big screen!
